With the fast pace and continuously changing market trends, careers and personal life are often demanding enough, without adding to the mix. Steve Kim – President

As President of Boilingpoint Communications, Steve brings more than 13 years of expertise in strategic marketing, communications and business development gained from his experience within the media, entertainment, and technology sectors. A strong proponent of rich media and interactive marketing, Steve thrives on helping organizations to integrate traditional and digital strategies that establish thought-leadership and drive business results.

Prior to starting Boilingpoint, Steve was Vice President of IN CONTEXT Marketing and PR, where he was responsible for all aspects of the business operations. Previously, Steve was the Director of Marketing and Business Development for Chalk Media, a leading North American mobile software and content solutions company, where he played a key role in successfully navigating the business past the dot.com crash and getting listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. During this time, Steve oversaw Chalk Media’s re-branding strategy, implemented a national public relations program, launched numerous content distribution partnerships with major airlines and publications, and helped set the foundation for the company’s acquisition by Research in Motion.

Darrell Hadden – Immediate Past President

Darrell started Graphically Speaking over 20 years ago. The company has evolved from the largest presentation graphics company in the Pacific Northwest to the second largest web developer in Greater Vancouver. Graphically Speaking has a web development team of over 40 web specialists.

Prior to Graphically Speaking, Darrell was a Product Manager for Roger’s Cable research and technology division, Cableshare. His team was responsible for the development of one of the first computer graphics systems for the web which was sold to IBM, Digital Equipment and Sperry Univac. His division was responsible for the development of the first North American home shopping trial with JC Penny, the first corporate intranet system with IBM and was also the first to integrate credit card readers, videodisks and touch screens with the microcomputer.

At Microtel Pacific Research, Darrell was part of a team that created “Teleguide,” the first public access kiosk in North America and developed computer graphics technology that industry experts believed would be the backbone of the Web.

Sarah Clayton – President Elect

Sarah spends her time creating designer marketing strategies as the Director of Marketing & Communications at Regent College and through her freelance marketing & design studio, Blu Peacock (www.blupeacock.ca). She is a seasoned marketer with a degree in marketing from the University of Calgary and 11 years of experience working in progressive marketing and sales roles at Canada’s Gas Station (Petro-Canada), where she generated a collection of ideas that became marketing successes.

Over the past 6 years, Sarah has not only consulted with clients throughout the Lower Mainland, but is also expanding her knowledge of advertising and graphic design through the Langara College Communication and Ideation Program. This has given her the momentum to create marketing strategies and successful design solutions for her clients and in her newly appointment position at Regent College.

Pauline Craggs, CMA – Treasurer

Pauline has over 17 years of accounting experience as a Senior Accountant and System Specialist for two subsidiaries of a large high-tech international company, Kongsberg Gruppen (www.kongsberggruppen.com).   Her responsibilities include all aspects of financial reporting for the Vancouver and Halifax office as well provide financial and technical support for the US offices.

She is analytical in process improvement and has a strong focus in risk management and governance. She plays a key role in strategic planning and has an appetite for continuous improvement, creativity, and innovated techniques for growth.

Claire Booth – VP Programming

After 10 years with Ipsos, one of the world’s largest market research companies, Claire founded Lux Insights, a boutique market research firm with offices in Vancouver and Seattle. Claire has expertise in all types of qualitative and quantitative research and is a seasoned focus group moderator. As an SVP at Ipsos, Claire opened and ran the Seattle Ipsos-Insights office, developing a new research team and a substantial US business.

Claire’s experience has spanned a variety of industries and includes firms such as Eddie Bauer, Starbucks, Getty Images, Seattle Seahawks, Tillamook Cheese and Newland Communities, the largest master-planned real estate developer in the US.  Locally, Claire’s experience includes Dairyland Foods, Overwaitea Food Group, Mark Anthony and several post-secondary institutions.

Claire was the 2006/2007 president of the Seattle chapter of the AMA and the 2005/2006 VP of Programming, responsible for the chapter’s annual MarketSmart conference.  Claire has recently returned to Vancouver, following a 16-month trip around the world.

Lionel Matecha – Director of Web Services

Lionel Matecha is an account director at Graphically Speaking where he continues to provide web marketing strategy and planning for a wide variety of clients since 2003. His experience with web development and online marketing has continued to evolve since the mid-90s. Lionel’s business credits include ten years served as vice president of a marketing and design firm that specialized in the North American technology industry. He has also worked extensively in the technology and business magazine industry.

A graduate of Simon Fraser University’s Executive MBA program, Lionel also holds a diploma in Graphic and Communication Arts and is designated as a Certified Internet Marketing Business Strategist by IIMA, the International Internet Marketing Association.  Lionel has been a guest speaker on Internet topics for organizations such as the BC Technology Industries Association and has volunteered with other associations including New Media BC and the International Association of Business Communicators.

Kerry J. Plowman – VP Operations

Kerry is a marketing professional with more than 10 years experience and a focus on lead generation and results-driven marketing strategies. He founded WestCoast Internet Marketing to help small and medium sized business expand their reach into target audiences using inbound and outbound marketing techniques. Kerry specializes in start-ups and product launches and has become the virtual marketing arm helping firms to define and execute their marketing plans.

Coming from the technology sector, Kerry has held senior management roles in Marketing and Product Management at leading multinational companies such as BMC Software, Network Associates Inc and McAfee. Customer advocacy, strategic planning and content creation were his primary focus resulting in several marketing campaigns that generated eight digit revenues. Kerry has guest lectured on industry trends and his career has led him to live in many places including Switzerland, Spain, Sweden,The Netherlands and the USA.

Kerry began his bachelor’s degree in Marketing at L’Université Laval and completed it at Uppsala Universitet in Uppsala, Sweden. He is fluent in English and French and also speaks Spanish, Dutch and Swedish.  Kerry brings considerable experience with volunteer management from the American Red Cross, where he was responsible for 700 volunteers during the mega-shelter operations of the hurricane Ike evacuation to Dallas, TX in 2008. In his spare time, Kerry can be found hiking or skiing in the mountains, working on his private pilot license, studying Chinese martial arts or trekking around historical ruins.

Lindsay Smith – Director of Vision

Lindsay Smith is the CEO and founder of Massive Media, a digital strategy and social video marketing company. Drawing on extensive experience in communications and information technology, Lindsay and her team help companies extract clear insights from their online marketing campaigns. As a regular guest expert on Global TV’s News Hour and Shaw TV’s Studio 4, she evangelizes new technologies and digital living. Lindsay recently joined the Board of the BC chapter of the America Marketing Association as the Director of VISION, one of the areas largest annual conferences that attracts hundreds of senior marketers from across the province who participate in the development of forward thinking marketing strategies. Lindsay also sits on the advisory board for Social Media Week, an organization that advances the use of social media in business.

Prior to starting Massive Media in 2005, Smith was the CEO and co-founder of Techvibes.com, a portal that markets high-tech companies to the masses. She was also the Executive Producer of some of Canada’s largest technology tradeshows including the Massive Tech Show and the F5 Expo from 2003 to 2010.

From 2007 to 2009, Lindsay was the co-host and executive producer of GetConnected Television (BNN and City TV). She also co-hosted GetConnected Radio (Corus Radio Network) demystifying technology for listeners across Canada. From 2004 to 2009, Lindsay sat on the National board of directors for Wired Woman, a Canadian association for women in technology. There she volunteered her time as CTO until she was elected to President of the association in 2005 where she actively supported women in IT for over 3 years.

Considered an expert in her field, Lindsay has been quoted countless times by local and national media. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Sciences from Simon Fraser University and resides in Vancouver, BC.

Meghan Carter – Director of Marketer of the Year

As Director of Marketer of the Year (MOY) and a BCAMA Board member, Meghan leads the team that executes the largest marketing awards event in Western Canada. A marketing professional with both North American and international work experience, Meghan has maintained a strong career focus on brand management, business development, marketing strategy and integrated communications. She won an American national award for crisis communication strategy and has been invited to present on business development strategy at international conferences. Meghan is currently Director of Marketing at Maynards, an international auction house with a diverse global portfolio. Meghan holds a Joint Honours BA from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. Her pursuit of challenge has led her to work in many places across North America, as well as in China and South Africa. She resides in downtown Vancouver, where she takes far too frequent advantage of the easy access to good espresso.

Pierre Burns – Director of Special Events

Pierre is a Strategy, Marketing, Business Development, Technology Executive and Consultant with over 13 years of experience. Client experience includes working with companies such as Vancity, Sage Software, Electronic Arts, Vancouver NHL players and entertainment personalities, and other premiere brands. Currently he is the CEO of Square Data Facilities, a green collocation and cloud computing provider.

She has demonstrated great capability to quickly adapt and work in a rapidly changing environment.
