Chris is one of Canada’s leading creative thinkers. In fact, since 1997, he has been named the number one creative director in the country eight times (including four times at Rethink, with co-creative director, Ian Grais).
Chris has an honours degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa. In 1990, he moved to Vancouver as a writer at Palmer Jarvis (now DDB). Three years later, he was creative director, helping lead that agency to three Agency of the Year titles in five years.
In 1999, Chris started Rethink with Ian Grais and Tom Shepansky. He splits his time between high-level strategy with clients and creative direction on all accounts in both Vancouver and Toronto.
Chris has won a slew of national and international awards and has served as a judge at Cannes (twice), the Clios (twice), D&AD, the One Show, the ANDYs and the Communication Arts Annual.
Executive Vice President / Managing Director, DDB Canada, Vancouver
Lance is known best for his innovative thinking and drive to uncover insights that inspire breakthrough ideas. Lance provides a fresh perspective to Vancouver marketers, having joined DDB from Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis, where he was executive vice president, director of strategic planning, providing clients with creative brand messaging across all channels. Prior to that, he had an impressive 20-year tenure at Leo Burnett in Toronto. An exceptional marketer, he has provided strategic planning expertise to top brands across many categories, including tourism, packaged goods, retail, financial services, beverage and telecommunications.
At DDB Canada, Lance works in concert with the agency’s account leaders, strategic planners, media experts and creative teams to determine the most effective approach for any given business challenge.
A sought-after thought leader, Lance has spoken at various Canadian universities and colleges and is an annual instructor at the Miami Ad School on planning, brand positioning, research and ideas.
Partner, Client Services, St. Bernadine
A 20-year veteran of BC’s marketing and advertising scene, Mike has an extensive background in all aspects of marketing and campaign development, both as a senior client and agency executive.
As the Manager of Marketing Communications at BC Hydro for nearly a decade, Mike spearheaded the strategic direction of all of BC Hydro’s marketing communications, culminating in BC Hydro winning the 2008 BCAMA Marketer of the Year. He also led BC Hydro’s sponsorship activation for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Mike’s previous agency experience includes roles as Vice President, Director of Client Services at Copeland Communications and Group Account Director at Lanyon Phillips.
General Manager, GREY Vancouver
Neil has spent over 17 years working within nearly every facet of the digital agency world. His considerable experience intersects digital business and commerce, online marketing, web technology, plus traditional bricks & mortar retail. He has managed integrated teams and campaigns across a multitude of brands such as Unilever, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, BMO, BMW, Canadian Tourism, Dell, Cadbury, OLG, and Air Canada. His work on many of these brands has garnered a wide range of results-based and creative awards, including Cannes Lions, One Show, Best-in-Show Promo awards, and Digital Marketing Golds.
As a UBC grad, Neil started his career at the original Palmer Jarvis. He recently moved back to the west coast to lead the Grey Vancouver team after 10 years working in Toronto where he led the team to Digital Agency of the Year at Tribal DDB and helped build the digital practices at two local Toronto agencies.
Owner / President, Lux Insights
Claire is the owner and President of Lux Insights, a boutique market research firm offering qualitative and quantitative research services and consulting. Claire launched Lux Insights in 2009 after she left the role Senior Vice President of the Ipsos-Reid Seattle office and has acquired clients on both sides of the border including Weyerhaeuser, Colliers, Tourism Victoria, Vancouver Aquarium, ICBC, Nintendo and Park Royal. Claire and her team help guide clients’ decision-making through the collection and distillation of insights.
Research has been the driving force in Claire’s career for the past 15 years. From her PhD studies at UBC to 10 years with Angus Reid and Ipsos-Reid, Claire has continued to fine-tune her listening, asking and observation skills so that she can better encourage and challenge her clients to listen to their market and to make decisions based on insights.
Claire sits on the MRIA BC Board, the QRCA WestCoast Chapter Board and is president of the Past-President’s Council at BCAMA. In addition, she also teaches marketing and market research at Capilano University.
