Kari is a career marketer with over 25 years’ experience creating and leading marketing teams across industry sectors including aviation, tourism, financial services, environmental services and higher education. Using passion, innovation and a collaborative approach, Kari is a brand builder who gets results, having worked at some truly innovative places such as Wardair, Canadian Airlines, Vancity, Offsetters and now UBC.
Her list of achievements is a long one – Kari partnered with VANOC and was named the first ever Official Carbon Offset Supplier to the 2010 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games – and delivered the first carbon neutral Olympic Games. She championed the first online social network in the financial institution space in Canada with changeeverthing.ca and received a Webby, and led Vancity as the first FI to ‘come out’ in mainstream advocating support for GLBT segment. Kari led the team that brought the innovative Bike Share program to the Lower Mainland and brought the global airline alliance oneworld to market.
As an authentic leader who is both creative and disciplined, and is comfortable operating within both the art and science of marketing, Kari is a pragmatic visionary. Her specialties include all aspects of brand and marketing strategy and execution, guiding brands that fully integrate corporate social responsibility into their work and building teams that are both inspired and inspiring.
Braden Hoeppner, Chief Marketing Officer, Coastal Contacts Inc.
Braden is a proven strategist, marketer and retailer. In his role at Clearly Contacts he directs the marketing strategy & supports the daily operations of the marketing team.
Prior to joining ClearlyContacts.ca, Braden held roles in vertical media and telecommunications where he guided the implementation, optimization and usage of web analytics and usability to improve website sales performance. He has also provided consulting services for online strategy to public sector and non-profit organizations.
Braden is an expert in web analytics and conversion optimization and has a passion for uncovering innovative solutions for customers. He understands the importance of moving fast in an online world
Braden holds a Bachelor Degree and Certificate of Community Economic Development from Simon Fraser University and is an avid collector of pez dispensers and fountain pens.
Vice President Marketing, Nature’s Path
Darren Mahaffy leads the marketing efforts at Nature’s Path Foods as the Vice President of Marketing. He has extensive knowledge and experience in consumer brands, having worked at leading packaged goods companies including Procter & Gamble, Gillette and Campbell’s. He has a passion for beating the competition through great trial generation programs, building trust in consumer brands and driving higher ROI through test-and-learn approaches.
Darren came to Nature’s Path, North America’s largest organic cereal manufacturer, from Weston Bakeries, Canada’s leading commercial bakery. During his tenure at Weston, his team received two Grand Prix awards in 2010 for their work – Best in Bakery and Top Consumer Acceptance for the launch of Gadoua MultiGo. He also led the award winning promotional program behind Weston’s 2010 Winter Olympic Games sponsorship – a winner of the Best Temporary Display at the Global 2010 POPAI Awards.
Darren worked at Gillette Canada, where he led several launches including Gillette Fusion, Tag Body Spray, and Venus Embrace.
Darren lives in Surrey, BC with his wife, daughter and son. He loves hockey, participating as a player, coach referee and fan. He has also been known to bore people to tears trying to convince them of the beauty of curling.
Vice President, Managing Director,
With a background strongly rooted in brand management, Anne brings strategic focus and deep communication experience to Karo. An intuitive leader, she believes in the power of great design to transform a brand. With over twenty years of experience, Anne is a strategy-first communicator with an uncanny ability to bring clarity, direction and cohesion to even the most complicated project or relationship.
She has worked at smaller boutique design firms such as Letterbox Design, and large creative agencies like DDB Canada, leading their Brand Design specialty group, Karacters Design. She joined the Karo Group in 2011 and has contributed to their ongoing success and national expansion.
Known as a hands-on creative collaborator, she has helped amplify numerous high profile brands, including the Canadian Tourism Commission, Vancity, VANOC, Shoppers Drug Mart, Simon Fraser University, Port Metro Vancouver and Mountain Equipment Co-op. Anne is a former board member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, has taught marketing courses at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and is a current board member for Arts Umbrella.
Anne’s passion for teamwork also translates to the ice where she is an avid left-winger for a women’s hockey team called the Babes on Blades.

From makeup artist, beer rep, and small biz marketer, I stumbled into community management is 2009, first building Vancouver’s Yelp community, and then leading a city by city expansion of Yelp across Canada. I now spend my days at the helm of Community Management for Invoke Labs: helping our companies-in-residence, tech startups and socially savvy businesses build, nurture, and grow communities big and small. How? By hiring, coaching and mentoring community managers, by playing host to education events and workshops, and by sharing my craft everywhere I go.
