Liberating or Lethal - The Future Hangs in the Balance for Marketers
Richard Worzel: Canada’s Leading Futurist

Whether we like it or not, marketing is changing, both in underlying techniques, and in the perceptions of the general public. New technologies and emerging developments in mass customization and assassin marketing are altering the way we can and must present products and services, while simultaneously engendering fear and suspicion in the minds of consumers. Meanwhile, the demographic calm of the last 20 years is now being shattered as three key demographs are shifting gears, and moving into a new phase of their lifecycles, which means that their needs, wants, and desires are changing right now. Those who do not prepare for these changes can kiss their business goodbye, while those who are prepared can, in Wayne Gretzky's words, skate to where the puck is going to be.

Richard Worzel addresses these developments, and provides a map of the landscape of the future, tying technology, demographics, and marketing together into a picture that you can use immediately. The future is approaching us at full throttle - and those who are unprepared will lose both clients and public esteem. more…

Creating a Leading Environment in Work & Play
About Kevin Carroll…

Founder of The Katalyst Consultancy, Kevin’s “job” is to nurture and care for the individual and communal inner spirit and to inspire new ways of thinking. It is not unusual for him to work with CEOs from Fortune 500 companies and a group of equally unruly first graders on the same day. In fact, it’s expected.

While working as head athletic trainer for the Philadelphia 76ers, Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight tapped Kevin to bring his unique experiences to the sneaker giant and help inspire their creatives. Although no job existed at the time, Knight encouraged Kevin to “hang out” and create the job that would add value to the company. Kevin accepted the challenge and stayed for seven years as “Katalyst.” He was the inspiration behind the Lance Armstrong wristband phenomenon and Starbucks recently chose Kevin as one of their “Authors of Note” where his words appear on 17 million Starbucks white coffee cups across the country.

In May of 2005, Kevin addressed dignitaries from 31 nations at the United Nations about the importance of play in their developing countries, which led to his appointment as special advisor to the global outreach organization, Right to Play. He is also heavily involved with many youth-focused organizations such as Architecture for Humanity, which supports global communities in crisis with design and architectural solutions and also builds playgrounds and sports fields for children around the world.

The More Things Change...
About Paul Lavoie…

In 1992, Paul co-founded TAXI with partner Jane Hope. Recognizing that fresh thinking was often stifled in compartmentalized traditional agencies, TAXI eliminated the silos and reinvented its own minimalist structure. The idea that a small, select team of experienced experts, just enough to share a cab, should take responsibility for every dimension of a brand proved to be a formula for great work and great results.

With a who’s who list of clients like TELUS, WestJet, MINI Cooper, Viagra, Molson, Canadian Tire, McCain and Reitman’s, TAXI has been named Agency of the Year in Canada for six consecutive years by either Marketing or Strategy Magazine, and as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies.

In 2005, Paul was inducted into the Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends and named by ADAge’s Creativity Magazine one of the Top 50 creatives in the world. In 2004 Paul and Jane moved to New York to open TAXI’s first foray into the international market and what Fortune Magazine hailed as “bringing sparkle back to Madison Avenue”.

Paul has always followed a vision of big ideas. A true inspiration to those around him, he is a passionate advocate of original thinking. He has an instinctive understanding of human nature and a natural ability to tell a story that is meaningful and that touches his audience. Trained as a designer, Paul’s expertise spans print, TV, short film and more. His reputation has grown from that of an internationally recognized creative director to an innovation mentor in strategy, business development and entertainment.
